Changing Dynamics of Kannada Television

The complete sphere of television is undergoing a revolution!
The TAM Rating System has now been replaced by the Broadcasters Audience Research Council (BARC) Rating System. Shows on all channels are improving in terms of quality and presentation. Channels are game to portray up-market luxuries in every aspect of their show making. New content is entering market every single day for the entertainment of the audiences!

And, the Kannada Television is also undergoing a drastic change in order to cope up with the changing dynamics of the industry and the demand of the audiences for better content!

The Leader of the Market - Colors Kannada

"ETv Kannada eega Colors Kannada"!
"Onde Sambandha ade Anubandha"!

Colors Kannada
ETv Kannada
This channel underwent magnificent transition from ETv Kannada to Colors Kannada marking the change of ownership to Network 18. And ever since the official launch of Colors Kannada, through the show, 'Color Color' it has always stayed on the top of BARC Ratings, be it in terms of Reality Shows, Fiction or the ratings of the channel on the whole. Ranging from telecast of extremely successful reality shows like Super Minute, Maja Talkies, Dancing Stars and the recently launched Bigg Boss to famous fictional shows like Agni Saakshi, Ashwini Nakshatra and Lakshmi Baramma, Colors Kannada has undauntedly stayed on the top of the table. Credit goes to the Programming and Business Head of Colors Kannada and a man of indomitable spirit, Parameshwar Gundkal. Ever since the change of ownership (which lead to the recruitment of Parameshwar Gundkal), the channel has zestfully presented new content to its viewers without compromising on the quality of any show under the leadership of this man. 'Anubandha Awards', an award ceremony exclusively for the members of the Colors Kannada Fraternity is one of the grandest celebrations of Bonding and Care of the family and something which all classes of audience look out for. With the recent launch of the third edition of Bigg Boss Kannada, the channel is certain about achieving greater heights and ratings.

Zee Kannada stiffening up to reach Position 1!

Zee Kannada - New Logo
Zee Kannada - Old Logo
Zee Kannada initiated their adaptation to the latest trend with the change in the colour combination of the logo of the channel. They also launched new shows such as 'Maharshivaani' and 'Weekend with Ramesh'. Ever since then, Zee Kannada has started leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of its viewers every time they tune onto it! With the launch of shows like 'Life Super Guru' and 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Little Champs', the channel has gotten more closer to the audiences. Award ceremonies such as 'Zee Music Awards' have been successful in getting the channel more audiences. With regard to elements of fiction, the channel is progressively getting stronger. The channel has been successful in roping in directors of successful daily soaps, such as Vinu Balanja, Arooru Jagdeesh and others. It won't be of much surprise if this channel reached Position 1 in a few months. The mastermind behind this change is unequivocally its Deputy Business Head and Programming Head, Raghavendra Hunsur. The channel has been gaining new dimensions ever since his recruitment. We will have to keep a watch on Zee Kannada to know what more they have in store for their audiences.

Attempt to regain position - Udaya

Udaya Tv
The TAM Report was based on televisions skewed towards Heartland India while we represent high-end and deep-end viewership. Udaya which remained on the top of all TAM Reports, swiftly dropped to the forth position on changing the rating system to BARC. It was absolutely necessary for Udaya to stand up, brush its knees and change its content to be positioned better on the BARC Ratings. There began the journey of Udaya towards content closer to the viewers. The channel has been continually trying to provide variety to its audience. The channel attains exceptionally high ratings while showcasing Blockbuster movies for the first time on television. Such spurts initially provided respite to the channel. Later, they realized that these unpredictable ratings were not enough and that they had to have a consistent weekly show to rely upon for their ratings. There started the exploration of Udaya for unexplored concepts in Fiction. Currently, they have new shows of fiction such as Moggina Manasu and Madumagalu. They also use new marketing strategies to attract more audiences towards themselves and their shows. Yet, they will have to undoubtedly strive more harder to get to the top of the table.

Kannada Television is silently adapting itself to the latest trend and all channels have begun to persuade more audiences for better positioning on the ratings table. But at the end of every year, there can only be one channel on the top of that table. And that channel would be the one which delivers the best content to its audiences and keeps them entertained at the same time. All channels are designing new strategies to rope in greater percentage of viewership. But, whose strategy will work? Who will get to the top of the BARC Table this year? We will have to wait to discover the answer!
